Providence would feel the pinch from NFL lockout

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence-Warwick Convention and Visitors Bureau says Providence would feel an economic pinch from an NFL lockout. Providence is 25 miles from Gillette Stadium. And CVB Vice President of Marketing, Kristen Adamo says fans, teams and television crews often stay in area hotels.

"We reach out to opposing teams when they're coming in, we'll write press releases encouraging people to stay in Providence," says Adamo. "We advertise in the Patriot yearbook, we did some advertising in their programs. And it's all designed to show them that Providence is in fact closer to Gillette Stadium than Boston."

Adamo says the playoff game in January with the Jets filled about 500 hotel room nights in Providence.
