Providence, RI – The five candidates running for mayor of Providence answered questions from teens Thursday about where they stood on aggressive policing, student involvement and balancing the city's budget.
On the question of how to get innocent kids off the police department's gang member database, all five mayoral candidates called for developing a system to weed out the innocent. 17-year-old Julie Merlain says that's only fair.
"You just can't assume that someone is involved in gang activities just because of tattoos they have or colors they wore."
Merlain says the answers she heard at this forum will inform her vote for the next mayoral election, when she'll be old enough to vote for the winning candidate's re-election.
