Public Forum: When A Blue Town Turns Red - Johnston and The Trump Presidency

Feb 24, 2017

As part of our One Square Mile: Johnston series, RIPR is hosting a public forum: “When A Blue Town Turns Red: Johnston and The Trump Presidency”

When: February 28, 2017 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Where: Johnston Municipal Courthouse, 1600 Atwood Ave, Johnston, RI
Details: Free and open to the public

About the forum:
Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton by 14 points in Johnston last November – a surprising development in the traditionally Democratic town. Johnston Democrats lean to the right, especially on social issues, so that helps to explain the outcome. Some voters welcomed Trump’s simple message of making America great again, and some wanted anyone other than Clinton.

In this forum, we’ll look at how this blue town turned red, what that tells us about Rhode Island, how President Trump is performing so far, and much more.

The forum will be recorded for possible broadcast.

Panel Moderator:
Ian Donnis, Political Reporter, Rhode Island Public Radio

Panelists:
Richard Delfino, Chair, Johnston Democratic Town Committee
David Levesque, Owner, Brewed Awakenings Coffee House
Bob Matteo, Chair, Johnston Republican Town Committee
