The Pulse: Training A Community In Mental Health First Aid

The Washington County Coalition for Children, in collaboration with schools, police, and Gateway Healthcare, have trained more than 500 community members and school personnel in youth mental health first aid.

Mental health first aid courses are popping up around the country. And here in Rhode Island, a group called the Washington County Coalition for Children has made it their mission to train as many school personnel and community members in youth mental health first aid as possible. The idea is to help kids before a crisis develops. But can it work? 

For this week’s The Pulse, we speak with the coalition’s Susan Orban about this training anyone can take and its impact.
