PROVIDENCE,RI – Some Rhode Island streets are looking more like swimming pools following a heavy downpour this morning. Dana Alexander Nolfe with the Department of Transportation says the last few days of rain have overwhelmed the state's drainage system.
"The volume of water is too great for the drainage," she says. "Think about it as if you have a funnel. If you were going to drop water through the funnel at a rapid pace, there may be spillage from the top."
Thursday morning, sections of Route 10 were closed to traffic due to extensive flooding. The highway is now reopened, but drivers should remain cautious of large puddles of water.
