Record Shipments Of Apples Come To R.I. Community Food Bank

Apr 29, 2014

Dave's Marketplace and First Fruits Marketing have donated a large number of apples to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank as part of their "Take a Bite out of Hunger" campaign. The apples were delivered from Washington State and will be distributed to food pantries across Rhode Island. Andrew Schiff, the food bank's CEO, says the apples are a great healthy snack item for children.

"It's very healthy and it's also a really easy snack for a parent to give to a child. When a kid comes home from school and they're hungry, they can have an apple as a snack. It's good for them and that will often be the thing that will tide them over until dinner."

The shipments of apples total 9,000 pounds of fruit.
