The Red Sox run in the playoffs is over. They lost to the Cleveland Indians 4-3 last night at Fenway, and were swept in the series three games to none.
The loss also marks the end of the major league career of David Ortiz. Ortiz walked on four pitches in his final major league at bat. One batter later, he was pulled for a pinch runner.
Following the game, Ortiz came back on the field where fans were chanting his name, waiting to say goodbye. Big Papi had tears in his eyes as he waved to the Fenway faithful one last time.
“I've been trying to hold my emotions most I can, but you know that last second I couldn't hold it no more,” said Ortiz. “And that's how we feel about what we do, because we love what we do.”
In his final playoff series, Ortiz had just one hit, one RBI, and two walks.
