PROVIDENCE, RI – U.S. Senator Jack Reed says he agrees with the Obama Administration's position to stay the course in Afghanistan following the shooting deaths of 16 Afghan civilians, allegedly by an American soldier.
Nevertheless, Reed says he fully expects the Taliban to exploit the situation.
"The Taliban needs no justification to try to provoke us and attack us," says Reed. "They've been doing that consistently. This will complicate the situation because what it does is it questions the ability of American and Afghani forces to work together."
Reed says he supports the U.S. and NATO plan to hand over security control to the Afghans by the end of 2014.
