Remembering Rhode Island's fallen troops
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Lawmakers will be honoring parents Monday night who have lost a son or daughter in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
U.S. Military numbers show 13 Rhode Islanders have died in the two wars. Chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee,Raymond Gallison, says the ceremony reminds these parents that Rhode Island will never forget their loss.
"It must be heart wrenching for them, what they go through on a daily basis having lost someone in these wars, and we want to make sure that they know their loved ones will never be forgotten," says Gallison.
Gallison says the parents wanted the ceremony on Valentine's Day to express their love for their sons and daughters. He says this is the seventh year lawmakers have honor parents of fallen troops.
