Remnants of tropical storm hit region
By ALEX NUNES
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The remnants of Tropical Storm Nicole are moving across New England, prompting forecasters to issue a flood watch for the entire state of Rhode Island.
Heavy rain is expected all day, with one to three inches forecast for Rhode Island and up to four inches in some areas. National Weather Service meteorologist Bob Thompson says urban flooding is a concern as well as high winds.
"We're anticipating south winds to be gusting from 40 to perhaps 50 miles per hour at times," Thompson says. "It's possible there could be an even stronger isolated gust in some of the heavier showers or any thunderstorms that we may have."
State emergency management officials say residents should remove lawn furniture or trash cans from their properties. The effects of the storm are expected to taper off this evening.
