RI Airport Corporation Selects a New Chief
A civil engineer and private pilot will be the next president and CEO of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation. Kelly Fredericks is currently overseeing expansion at the airport in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Fredericks has held leadership positions at airports in Pittsburgh, Harrisburg and Erie Pennsylvania. He’s currently with a consulting group managing the construction of a new terminal down at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
Chair of the Airport Corporation Board, Dr. Kathleen Hittner, says Fredericks’ experience overseeing runway expansion and with coalition building landed him the job.
“He’s built relationships with airlines and he’s very keen on building those personal relationships with our leadership team and our employees,” says Hittner.
TF Green has expanded service in the past year, luring JetBlue and its daily flights to Orlando and Fort Lauderdale. And Southwest Airlines added seasonal flights to Florida. Building on those additional flights is key for the airport. Hittner says the number one task is to lure more passengers to TF Green, by either getting more flights from airlines already flying out of Green or attracting new airlines.
Fredericks says it will take time to bring more passengers to TF Green. He also wants to make the most out of the Interlink transit hub, “it takes time, you know as far as to build a ridership,” he says, “but I think it’s a real diamond in the rough asset that we’ve only scratched the surface on so far.”
Fredericks starts April 8th with a salary of $255,000.
The Airport Corporation received 35 applications for the top job, and Hittner notes that only one of them was a woman.
