RI Awarded $2.1M To Address Growing Opioid Problem

Apr 24, 2017

As drug overdose deaths continue to rise in Rhode Island, the Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals has been awarded $2.1 million in federal grants to fight opioid addiction.

The award, which comes through the 21st Century Cures Act, was announced Friday.

The federal funds come at a time when the state is pushing to cut overdose deaths by one- third over the next three years. In 2016, 326 people died from overdoses in the Ocean State.
