A noon mass on Thursday marked the final day of Pope Benedict XVI. It was held at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul.
Hundreds attended the mass, nearly filling the church, to pray for the now-retired Pope.
Bishop Thomas Tobin of the Providence Diocese called Benedict a “pilgrim, prophet and bridge builder.” Tobin recalled meeting Benedict at the Vatican in 2011 and upon telling the pope where he was from, Benedict commenting that Providence was a beautiful name for a diocese.
