The Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles reported no major technical issues Tuesday, as all of its branches operated under a new computer system for the first time.
Branches had been operating under scheduled closings and an online reservation system while DMV employees trained on the system. Tuesday also marked the first time walk-ins were welcome since the beginning of the month.
Paul Grimaldi, spokesman for the department, said the average wait time at the main DMV branch in Cranston was an hour and 15 minutes for the 677 people serviced.
According to Grimaldi, the DMV processed transactions 4 percent faster using the new database-- 11.6 minutes to 11.2 minutes.
