The deal includes the sale of Rehabilitation Hospital of Rhode Island in North Smithfield. Silverstein also signed off on a resolution to Landmark’s dispute with Blue Cross Blue Shield, giving Blue Cross members coverage at Landmark for two years.

“It’s very good news for Rhode Island, for the northern Rhode Island economy, and for the northern Rhode Island healthcare consumer,” said Landmark’s spokesman Bill Fischer.

Fischer said the closing is scheduled for December 31st ending Landmark’s more than five years in receivership. Once the sale is done, Landmark will be the state’s first for-profit hospital.
