RI mobster to enter guilty plea this week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A Rhode Island mobster is due in court this week to plead guilty to a murder for hire plot.

Anthony "The Saint" St. Laurent is scheduled to change his plea to guilty during a federal court appearance Tuesday. According to court documents, St. Laurent tried to hire various people to kill fellow Mafia member Robert DeLuca who had publicly accused St. Laurent of being a government informant.

The alleged murder for hire plot began five years ago when St. Laurent solicited several people to kill DeLuca. Each of them was promised cash and assured the hit' had been approved by Luigi Manocchio, then the reputed head of the New England Cosa Nostra.

The killing was never carried out, in part, because St. Laurent was arrested for extortion. At his court appearance, St. Laurent is expected to plead guilty to murder for hire and extorting protection payments from some Taunton bookmakers.
