PROVIDENCE, RI – Rhode Island's online marketplace for health insurance just earned a gigantic check from the federal government. The Ocean State will receive 58 million dollars over the next few years to design the so called health insurance exchange.
Chiquita Brooks-Lasure with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says Rhode Island is the first state in the nation to receive what's called a level two grant.
"Rhode Island has been at the forefront of health care innovation throughout its history and has a great deal of experience and I think is ready to move on to level two," she says.
State officials will use the money to design the exchange, build information technology, and hire staff.
