RI soldier and wife dead at Fort Hood
By CATHERINE WELCH
Providence, R.I. – A Rhode Island soldier stationed at Fort Hood is suspected of killing his wife and then himself at their home on the Texas Army base.
The Army says 31-year-old Sgt. Michael Timothy Franklin and his wife Jessie Ann Franklin were found shot to death in their home Sunday. Fort Hood officials say circumstances are under investigation, but it appears Franklin shot his wife and then himself.
Franklin, from Middletown, and his wife had a two-year-old son and six-year-old daughter. The Army says the children are in Fort Hood's child protective services.
Salve Regina University says Franklin graduated from there in 2003 with a degree in Elementary Education, and that his wife took classes there in Administration of Justice.
Franklin joined the Army in August of 2005 and served two tours in Iraq. He returned from the most recent one back in January.
There have been 14 suicides at Fort Hood this year, with six additional cases pending review.
