PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The funeral is today for the Rhode Island soldier who was killed in Afghanistan.
Sgt. Michael Paranzino was a native of Middletown who decided to go into the military after graduating from high school. He was an Army scout based at Ft. Drum, New York. And he was on his second deployment.
The first one was to Iraq; this one sent him to Kandahar Afghanistan. That's where he died November 5 from wounds suffered from an IED attack. His funeral is at 10:30 this morning at St. Lucy's Church in Middletown, the governor is scheduled to attend.
Paranzino leaves behind a wife and two sons. He was 22-years-old.
