PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rhode Island's unemployment rate edged down slightly in October.
Rhode Island's October unemployment rate was 11.4 percent, a decrease of one tenth of a percent from the September rate. It was the eighth consecutive monthly decline and the lowest rate since July 2009.
The number of unemployed residents now stands at 65,300. Over the year the number of jobless residents has decreased by almost 5,000 - the largest yearly decline in 15 years.
Jobs were added in accommodation and food services, wholesale trade and manufacturing.
Health care led the way among the job losers, shedding 400 jobs.
