PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rhode Island's unemployment rate edged slightly lower in December. Rhode Island's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the month was 11.5 percent. That's a decrease of one tenth of a percentage point from the November rate.
According to the state department of Labor and Training the number of unemployed Rhode Islanders fell to an even 66,000.
Employment gains were reported in six sectors. The largest occurred in the Health Care and Social Assistance sector, which added 500 jobs.
Gains were also reported in Transportation and utilities, retail trade, education, professional and business services and manufacturing.
