RI woman who led marathon to get MRI

Providence, RI – By MEGAN HALL

The Providence woman who led the Boston Marathon for more than 15 miles is recuperating in Rhode Island today.

Kim Smith had to step out of the race after severe calf pain kept her from moving forward. She says she's going to have an MRI this afternoon.

"To see if I tore anything badly, or had a stress fracture in one of my bones or my legs," she says.

Smith says she's disappointed by her performance yesterday, but it's not going to keep her from running. She says running isn't just her job; it's what she loves to do.

Smith likes to train for her marathons on the streets of Providence. As long as there's a road to run on, she says she's pretty happy.
