RIDOT turning off highway lights

PROVIDENCE, RI – The state department of transportation is turning off more highway lights to save money on electrical costs.

The agency says timers which turn off the lights from midnight to five a-m have been installed on sections of six major thoroughfares including Route 99 in Cumberland and Lincoln, Route 138 in North Kingstown and Jamestown and Route 24 in Portsmouth and Tiverton.

The extinguished lights are expected to save half a million dollars a year.
