RISD Recieves $1M Gift to Foster Partnership with India
The Rhode Island School of Design has received a private donation of $1M to fund international relationships. RIPR’s John Bender has more.
A $1M donation coming from Bangalore, India to RISD is the largest international gift the school has ever received. The money will be used to fund a visiting faculty position, specifically, artists and scholars connected to India.
RISD has had study abroad programs to India, and Provost Rosanne Somerson is excited to now bring scholars from India to RISD
“This will allow us a different kind of scholarly partnership. I mean India has such a very rich cultural sense. It’s impossible to think about the future without recognizing the role that India will play, and is already playing, and so RISD as a globally focused institution, is really excited about developing this partnership.”
The gift is from the parents of a recent RISD grad. RISD plans to have the program running by next year.
