PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Teachers at the Rhode Island School of Design have taken a vote of no confidence in the school's president John Maeda.
Mark Sherman, chair of the faculty steering committee, tells WRNI the vote passed last night 147 to 32, with 15 abstentions. Teachers have expressed concerns with Maeda's strategic plan, which would change graduation requirements and end the school's winter session tradition. He has also outlined a re-ogranization of some departments.
Maeda first came to the school three years ago and has implemented some budget cutting measures. But some at the school give him credit for raising scholarship money and improving facilities at the art school.
