Schillings use Facebook to fire back, unload on Rhode Island officials

Despite repeated and sustained requests for interviews from a bevy of Rhode Island news organizations, Curt Schilling and his wife Shonda continue to utilize Facebook to fire back at reports emanating from the Ocean State.

There’s a certain irony here; Former Governor Don Carcieri, a top cheerleader for what became Rhode Island’s dubious investment in 38 Studios, embraced talk-radio during his two terms in office. Carcieri perceived it as an unmediated forum in which he could communicate directly with constituents.

In a similar way, the Schillings favor Facebook as a uncritical forum to offer their side of the story (as they tell it, they were victimized by Governor Lincoln Chafee and other RI officials; some reports tell a different story.)

The latest instance includes Schilling’s retort to a story in which the AP’s Erika Niedowski outlines the difficulty faced by a state Economic Development Corporation lawyer in gaining access to informatino about 38 Studios.

As reported earlier by WBZ and others, Schilling posted this response on Facebook:

Here’s where this will get entertaining, and we’ll see if people honestly care about the truth when all is said and done. This wasn’t about “DAYS”, this was about “HOURS” and “MINUTES”. We backed up every ounce of data and email exchanged between the EDC and 38 to INSURE when this BS started to come out, people seriously interested in the truth, will know it. We didn’t stonewall anyone, the EDC was trying to bully us and intimidate us on multiple fronts. We were working 24/7 for over 6 weeks to resolve issues that never should have arisen, meeting with deaf and dumb silence, intentional by the way, at every turn. EDC, and the state, saw our financials every month, every SINGLE month, in addition to an independent audit that returned “NO WRONG DOING BY ANYONE AT 38″ that they demanded.

Not to be outdone, Shonda Schilling offered her own Facebook post, accusing Rhode Island officials of sabotaging 38 Studios:

So back to my original point to the media. So over a 100 million dollars put into the game, within a year of launch, 300 people living and enjoying being a Rhode Island resident, Rhode Island first in line to be paid back, people jumping off the EDC board like flies, Chaffee [spelling in original] and his office making sure everyone knows or thinks 38 studios is in financial trouble. See where I am going Rhode Island.

So know Rhode Island tax payers everyone is quick to write that you will be fitting the bill for this one. You know what I think you got. A 110 million dollar “I told you so” from your beloved Governor Chaffee.

Schilling has only offered two interviews since 38 Studios ran into trouble, one to the Providence Journal and one to Boston sports-talk station WEEI, in which some of the listeners asked tougher questions than the hosts of the Dennis & Callahan program.
