Schools Cutting Music Programs? Juilliard Offers a Solution

One of the nation’s most selective conservatories for the performing arts is now offering online classes for elementary and secondary students. The initiative, dubbed “Juilliard eLearning,” includes hands-on music instruction and demonstrations from Juilliard faculty and students.

Based on descriptions from the program’s website, the classes sound challenging.  Kindergartners-2nd graders get exposure to basic concepts like rhythm and melody. 3rd-5th graders will tackle music composition and improvisation, and high school students study orchestration and music history.

Juilliard says future courses may include music theory, drama and dance history and even a virtual version of the famed “master class.”
