Providence, RI – The City of Providence is beginning the search for its next police chief. According to Public Safety Commissioner Steven Pare, about a dozen people from inside and out of the department have inquired about the job, and city officials hope to fill the position by December. Former Police Chief, Colonel Dean Esserman stepped down in June after accusations that he allowed minors to drink alcohol in his home at a graduation party for his daughter.
The capitol city is offering salary between $118 and $143 thousand for the position. That's substantially less than Esserman's salary of $168,000.
