Segal joins Westin workers in protest

Providence, R.I. – One day after announcing his intention to run for Congress, state Rep. David Segal is getting involved in the Westin Hotel labor dispute.

Accompanied by Westin workers, Segal presented hotel management with the signatures of 3,600 people who are demanding the reversal of a pay cut and health insurance increases imposed on Westin Hotel workers two months ago. The entourage was told the manager, Mark Brown, was not available to accept the signatures.

After kicking cameras out of the lobby, Sue McDonald of the hotel's human resources department received the signatures.

The signatures were collected by Netroots Nation, a group of liberal bloggers who have selected providence for its 2011 convention. They are threatening to cancel it unless the Westin labor dispute is resolved.
