Providence, R.I. – Rhode Island Senate Majority Leader Daniel Connors says he won't seek re-election.
The Cumberland Democrat said in a statement Wednesday that it was becoming increasingly difficult to perform his Senate duties while at the same time building a law practice.
He said he was particularly proud that during his time in the Legislature the state adopted a fair education funding formula; adopted major tax reform; and made the state more business friendly.
Senate President M. Teresa Paiva Weed said in a statement to The Providence Journal that the Senate would miss Connors' leadership and his wit.
Connors was first elected as a 20-year-old Providence College junior in 1996.
