PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Drivers were advised to use caution when commuting through the Providence area Tuesday morning.
National Weather Service meteorologist Benjamin Sipprell says the area could see up to three inches of snow but the precipitation will eventually turn to rain across the state.
"That warm air is going to wrap into the system," Sipprell says. "We're going to find ourselves transitioning from that snow regime to a short period of freezing rain and sleet."
Sipprell says the sleet will not last long and eventually turn into rain lasting until tomorrow morning. He says precipitation is already mixed along Rhode Island's shore. The rain is expected to taper off and leave the region by tomorrow morning.
