WRNI – What began as a routine debate on the next state budget in Rhode Island, turned into a load confrontation late Friday night. It ended with the Governor threatening to sue if the Rhode Island senate takes up what he claims is a legally invalid spending plan. Governor Carcieri, house republicans and a small group of democrats have thrown the leadership of house speaker William Murphy and majority leader Gordon Fox into question. Some domocrats accuse the governor of offering to discourage GOP oppisition to representatives who voted against the budget. The turmoil may affect a casino vote and other pending legislation.
