Study finds potential for Tiverton wind farm
By AP
TIVERTON, R.I. – A new study says Tiverton's industrial park is the best place for a multitown wind farm.
The study by the East Bay Energy Consortium is scheduled to be presented to the town council on Monday.
The consortium was formed last year by the communities of Newport, Middletown, Portsmouth, Tiverton, Little Compton, Bristol, Warren, Barrington and East Providence.
Garry Plunkett, Tiverton's representative on the consortium, tells The Newport Daily News that placing wind turbines from several communities at the same site could considerably cut development costs.
Cost projections range from $50 million to $63 million.
The site analysis is one of the first stages in a process that includes more technological data, legal work, financial analyses and approval.
