Suspect in Navy kickback released on bail

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The man at the center of an alleged $10 million bribery kickback scheme is free on $10,00 bail. The scheme led to the collapse of Middletown-based Advanced Solutions for Tomorrow.

Richard Kulesh was filled with anger as he watched his former boss, Anjan Dutta Gupta, appear in court on a charge of bribing a public official. Kulesh was one of the roughly 100 employees of Advanced Solutions for Tomorrow who were laid off as a result of the alleged $10 million bribery scheme.

"He took an extremely good group of people who were close who worked well and he gutted us," Kulesh says. "I'm extremely displeased about it. It's hurt a lot of people."

Dutta Gupta, a burly man with curly salt and pepper hair, answered the judge's questions in a strong Indian accent. He was freed on condition that he limit his travel to northern Georgia, the District of Columbia and Rhode Island.
