Suspected Bomber's Wife From North Kingstown

Apr 20, 2013

The family of the Rhode Island woman who was married to one of the suspected bombers is not commenting to reporters waiting Saturday outside their North Kingstown home.

The blinds are drawn, curtains pulled at the khaki colored, two-story house on the corner of the leafy cul-de-sac. The family of Katherine Russell had been living quietly in this North Kingstown neighborhood until the connection was made that Katherine was married and has a child with Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who died in a shoot-out early Friday.

The Daily Mail reports Tsarnaev spent every weekend at the Russell home. But neighbor David Mather said he never saw him.

“I never saw a child and I don’t recall seeing the suspect, pretty much the same story everybody here,” said Mather.

Reporters have been waiting outside the home since Friday evening. Mather said he saw police at the home Friday morning, “we saw state police and two big, black SUVs and we saw more local police along the road,” said Mather. “And I called my wife, because we had been watching TV, and we said that was surprising but we didn’t make the connection.”

The Russell family put out a statement that they were, quote, “sickened” to learn of Tsarnaev’s involvement. "Our daughter has lost her husband today, the father of her child. We cannot begin to comprehend how this horrible tragedy occurred," the statement said. "In the aftermath of the Patriots' Day horror we know that we never really knew Tamerlan Tsarnaev. Our hearts are sickened by the knowledge of the horror he has inflicted."
