Suspected Bomber's Wife says She's Assisting with the Investigation

Apr 23, 2013

The Rhode Island widow of Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev has issued a statement through her attorney. Her lawyer said she is doing everything possible to assist with the investigation.

Her husband’s apparent involvement in the Boston Marathon bombings came as an “absolute shock” to his wife, Katherine Russell Tsarnaev, according to a statement from her attorney, Amato DeLuca.

DeLuca said the two married in 2010. Since then, she has been living in Cambridge, MA working long hours and caring for her young daughter. “Katie”, as she is known. Russell converted to Islam after marrying Tsarnaev.

According to the statement Russell is in deep mourning for the pain and loss caused to the dead and injured. In a statement released over the weekend, the Russell family said in the aftermath of the bombings they never really knew Tsnaraev, who died in a shootout early Friday.
