(PROVIDENCE, RI) The Rhode Island Division of Taxation says its latest tax amnesty program was a big success. It collected $22-million, more than twice what the state collected in the last tax amnesty program in 2006.
Eligible applicants had their interest waived and their tax debt reduced by 25 percent. The most money came from personal income taxes with just a little more than $8-million.
The state received and approved close to 8,000 applications for amnesty.
