WRNI – For the first time ever, a Rhode Island teacher has been named National Teacher of the Year by the Council of Chief State School Officers. Kathleen Mellor is an ESL teacher in North Kingston. She talks with Morning Edition host Deborah Becker from Washington where she will be honored in a ceremony at the White House. This is the first time an English as Second Language teacher has been chosen for the honor, which has been awarded since 1952.
