Teachers Plan Protest of Raimondo Fundraiser

Sep 26, 2013

Unionized teachers plan to protest a fundraiser being held to benefit State Treasurer Gina Raimondo this afternoon Thursday.  Providence Mayor Angel Taveras also attracted protestors during a fundraiser earlier this week.

Raimondo will be holding a fundraiser Thursday, which unionized teachers plan to protest.

Raimondo is slated to start her day with a speaking appearance sponsored by Brown University’s Office of Women and Medicine in Science. The topic for the talk is: “Making an Impact: How to Think Strategically and Get Results.”

Later in the day, the Rhode Island Federation of Teachers is organizing a protest at a Raimondo fundraiser at Roger Williams Park Casino. Raimondo and Taveras are expected to square off next year in a Democratic primary for governor.

Taveras faced his own protestors during a Monday fundraiser at a Providence restaurant. The critics were upset by the mayor’s decision not to open the Davey Lopes Pool on the South Side this summer.
