Bangor, ME – A third state appears to be pursuing charges against a Greyhound bus driver charged with one of the bank robberies committed by a man dubbed by the FBI as the ``burly bandit.''
Robert Ferguson is being held in Maine, where he was arrested Wednesday for allegedly robbing a Bangor Savings Bank in Orono. He was later charged in Warwick, R.I., for a May 27 robbery in that city.
FBI spokeswoman Gail Marcinkiewicz says the Rhode Island robbery was one of at least 10 bank holdups committed by the burly bandit. The investigation continues.
Defense lawyer Jon Haddow said Monday that he has heard from authorities in Connecticut and anticipates charges will be filed in that state as well. He says that Ferguson is maintaining his innocence.
