PROVIDENCE, RI – Hasbro's massive holiday toy giveaway begins Wednesday with the sorting of toys at a Woonsocket warehouse.
State agencies have given Hasbro the genders and ages of 35,000 needy kids. Each will get a toy from his or her parent, says Hasbro spokesman Brandon Keough.
"We are not wrapping them," Keough says. "We're working with the RI Community Action Association to help distribute these toys to parents across the state. It's really to make the parent the hero."
The Rhode Island-based Hasbro has been handing out toys to local youngsters for nearly 30 years. This year's donation has a retail value of $850,000.
