"Traffic tsunami" a no-show in downtown Providence

PROVIDENCE, RI – There were shrugged shoulders and full parking lots Monday morning as the expected traffic tsunami failed to produce gridlock.

There were 18,000 expected, and people started trickling in at the crack of dawn ready to hear Bill Cosby and Colin Powell in the Get Motivated event at the Dunkin Donuts Center. With cops on the corner directing them to parking, attendees started filling garages at around 6:00am Monday morning. By 8:00am, most of them were full.

Stuck behind drivers being rejected from a Washington Street parking garage, Ben Dimascolo was trying to get to church, "I think it's horrible (laughs) but God will understand."

Some commuters says the warning ahead of time helped smooth their drive into downtown while others called the whole thing hype.
