Transportation: A Big Challenge for Those With Dementia
Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Roberts toured the state with an all-volunteer work group for a number of listening sessions to get a better sense of what’s available to those suffering from dementia and their caregivers. They also wanted to hear about what more can be done to help residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
They took what they learned from those sessions, and other meetings, and complied that information into a plan for the state. It's called Rhode Island's State Plan on Alzheimer's & Related Disorders, and can be found here. One topic that quickly moved toward the top of concerns is how those affected with dementia get around the state. Rhode Island Public Radio's Catherine Welch and Lt. Gov. Roberts talk about the transportation challenges.
