Forecasters say it’s a tossup whether the rain that will come with Tropical Storm Arthur will dampen parades during the day or fireworks at night. The National Weather Service is expecting the storm to move past us Friday into early Saturday.
Meteorologist Bill Simpson says the storm track puts Arthur about 100 miles east of Cape Cod, bringing winds of up to 40 miles per hour to mostly the Newport area. As for the rain, “could rain pretty hard for a short period of time, and that’s anytime during the day on the 4th. So the 4th doesn’t look too good,” said Simpson.
Simpson said low cloud cover at night could dampen fireworks displays. The upside – Saturday and Sunday will be sunny with low humidity and a high around 80.
