The University of Rhode Island and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport are partnering up to help small Rhode Island defense businesses.
The university’s Business Engagement Center and the U.S. Navy division are helping small to medium size defense businesses grow, by giving them access to their labs and various patents. The partnership aims to help these businesses commercialize the technologies they have available.
Executive Director of the Business Engagement Center, Katharine Hazard Flynn, says partnering with the Navy will allow URI to offer wider services to these businesses.
Meanwhile, Navy officials say their engineers working in the warfare center can benefit too, through exposure to new research.
