PROVIDENCE, RI – House Speaker Gordon Fox has appointed a legislative study commission to consider the creation of a waste-to-energy facility in Rhode Island.
The commission is supposed to study the economic and environmental impacts of a waste-to-energy plant that would turn compost, food waste, and sewer sludge into energy.
Environmental advocates have been generally skeptical about the merits of waste-to-energy in Rhode Island.
But a legislative news release notes that Massachusetts, New York, and Connecticut have waste-to-energy plants.
