Whitehouse touts tax credits for small businesses
By CATHERINE WELCH
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse is getting the word out to small businesses about federal tax credits, some that expire soon. One credit gives small businesses a break if they're paying for more than half of health insurance for some employees.
Whitehouse said more than 80 percent of small businesses qualify for this tax credit but many of them don't know about it.
"All of the day to day tasks of running a small business don't give you a lot of time to be browsing through the tax code and finding out what your opportunities are," said Whitehouse.
Another tax credit saves small businesses on capital gains taxes, Whitehouse said, if they make capital investments by the end of the year.
