PROVIDENCE, RI – Women & Infants Hospital has been selected to undertake a unique initiative intended to promote breastfeeding.
Best Fed Beginnings is a national effort aimed at encouraging mothers to breastfeed in states where nursing rates are lowest. The hospital was selected from over 200 applicants to adopt the program.
Program coordinator Cindi Zembo says the program provides women with education and healthcare advice when deciding to breastfeed.
"It's providing mothers with consistent education prenatally and connecting them with resources for after they go home so that they are getting the same messages across the healthcare continuum," says Zembo.
The program is expected to be fully up and running by 2014.
