Providence Bicycle App Now Running Smoothly

Providence launched a smartphone app to track the rides of cyclists earlier this year.  After a couple hiccups, the app is now helping city planners create a bicycle master plan for the city.

(PROVIDENCE, RI) Last week, a cyclist in Newport was taken to Rhode Island Hospital after being hit by a suspected drunken driver. RIPR felt the issue needed more perspective. So we invited area cyclist Brian Chapman into the studio to discuss cycling safety and culture in the state. Chapman is a prominent fixture in the local cycling community. He's also a frame builder at Circle A Cycles. It's a local bicycle frame building cooperative in Providence.

Aquidneck Island bike route pedals forward

(PROVIDENCE, RI) A bike route stretching the length of Aquidneck Island is closer to becoming a reality. A grant to create a design for an 18-mile route is currently being vetted by the Department of Environmental Management.

Real time data to develop bike path master plan

(PROVIDENCE, RI) The City of Providence is launching a new app that tracks trips taken by bicycle. The app will help planners determine routes on the new bicycle master plan. Cyclists with a smartphone will soon be able to help Providence plan future bike routes in the city.
