The Newport Fire Marshall begins an investigation into the fire that destroyed a historic mansion on Bellevue Avenue. No one was reported injured in the blaze, which began Thursday afternoon.

The fire broke out at the historic Stonor Lodge, a 9,000 square foot historic building, in the midst of a renovation.

Newport Fire Captain Phil Oliveira says the blaze had completely engulfed the building the time crews arrived on scene.

(PROVIDENCE, RI) Attendance at the Newport mansions has reached a 10 year high.  And expanded hours may make 2013 an even more profitable year.

Admissions to the Newport mansions increased 11 percent in 2012 to a total of 883,000 visitors. The gain was the strongest on record, according to the Preservation Society of Newport County which runs the mansions. Evan Smith, CEO and president of Discover Newport, says the growth is attributable to expanded tours the Preservation Society has been offering.
